Yasmien Kurdi's kiss with JC de Vera is more torrid than with Marvin Agustin

Sina Yasmien Kurdi at Jennylyn Mercado ang magkasabay na pumasok sa showbiz. In fact, sila ang naging mahigpit na magkalaban sa unang batch ng Starstruck, and as we all know, si Jennylyn ang tinanghal na ultimate female survivor, with Yasmien as the first princess.



Bukod sa pagiging colleague, naging matalik na magkaibigan din sila, kaya naman si Yasmien ang isa sa mga nararapat hingan ng opinyon tungkol sa kalagayan ngayon ni Jennylyn.



"Kanina, magkausap po kami," sinabi ni Yasmien sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kagabi sa The Oasis sa Aurora Boulevard, Quezon City kung saan ginanap ang grand presscon ng Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita ng GMA-7.



At ang naging takbo ng usapan nila...


"Four months na po yung baby niya, ‘tapos tinatanong ko siya, ‘tapos tinawagan niya ako, sabi niya hindi nga raw siya nakapunta ng summer plug shoot ng GMA kasi nga raw nagdudugo yung ilong niya.



"Hindi ko alam, parang may something-something siya."


Ano ang pananaw ni Yasmien tungkol sa mga nangyayari kay Jennylyn?


"I don't know. Siguro kasi buhay nila yun. Ayokong manghimasok sa life nila.


"Hindi ko naman sinasabing ginusto niya or something, pero kasi nandun pa rin ang love. I mean, nung ginawa nila yun...bakit nila nagawa yung baby? Kasi may pagmamahal, ‘di ba?



"So ngayon, sa nangyayari, I think kailangan lang maging mature enough siya to handle the situation, na sa maayos na paraan, para lumaki yung bata sa maayos na paraan. Hindi yung kung anu-ano na lang yung magiging buhay nung bata."



SUPPORTING A FRIEND. Ayaw isipin ni Yasmien na mas bumongga ang career niya nang nabuntis si Jennylyn.


"Hindi ako naglalagay ng ganun sa nangyayari, kasi may pinagsamahan din naman kami nung tao, hindi naman...parang napaka-selfish naman ng dating mo, ‘di ba?



"I mean, life na niya yun, for me I'm just telling her na if you need anything or if you want anything, I'm here, I'm here to give you those things, if you want anything na iba-buy ko or may gusto kang bilhin or what, nandito lang ako.


"I mean, i-set aside na natin yung career-career na muna, magpakatotoong-tao na muna tayo for the situation."


KEEPING OUT OF JEN AND PATRICK'S BUSINESS. Sa Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, kapareha ni Yasmien for the third time si JC De Vera, at tampok din dito ang tambalang Angelika dela Cruz at Marvin Agustin. Bida rin sa dramang ito sa telebisyon si Miss Dina Bonnevie, with Glydel Mercado, Tonton Gutierrez, Paolo Contis, Diana Zubiri, Ian de Leon, Jay Aquitania, LJ Reyes, Jenny Miller, Robert Ortega, at Patrick Garcia.



Yes, kasama ni Yasmien si Patrick sa show; nakausap na ba ni Yasmien si Patrick na ama ng dinadala ni Jennylyn?


"Not yet, hindi pa. Ayokong makialam, kasi..."


Ayaw niyang makialam kahit bilang kaibigan ni Jen?


"Hindi, ayokong makialam sa ganun, kasi nakakairita, kunwari kayo, may problema kayong couple ‘tapos may nakikialam sa gitna ninyo, nakakairita yung feeling na yun, hindi siya nakakatuwa."



LOVE SCENES AND KISSING SCENES. Sa Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, magiging asawa ng character ni Yasmien na si Salve, si Alfred played by Marvin. Bilang mag-asawa, may mga eksena silang gawin na ginagawa ng mag-asawa, tulad ng love scene.


Kinumusta naman ang love scene nila Marvin.


"Okey lang po. Alam ninyo, sa sobrang respeto ko kay Kuya Marvin, na parang nakikita ko lagi na ‘pag magla-love scene kami, tawa kami nang tawa, hindi namin magawa-gawa. Hanggang bumaba si Direk [Joel Lamangan] from the OB van, tumingin na sa amin nang masama ‘tsaka, ‘Ano ba, gagawin n'yo ba o hindi?'



"So kami, ‘Tara gawin na natin,' ganun. Kasi sobrang nakakailang."


Napapanood na niya si Marvin noon pang wala pa siya sa showbiz.


"Oo, nanonood ako nun, e. Nung bata...ay, hindi naman! Bata rin naman siya nun, e," biglang kambiyo ni Yasmien sa sasabihin niya nang mapansing puwedeng gawan ng issue ang mga bibitawan niyang salita.


Parang kuya ang tingin niya kay Marvin?


"Kuya po talaga, pati si Ate Angelika [dela Cruz]."


Paano niya ikukumpara ang halikan nila ni Marvin sa mga naging halikan nila ni JC in the past?


"Ayoko, hindi ako nagkukumpara, e," safe na sagot niya.


Pinilit pa rin namin siya at tinanong kung sino na lang ang mas masarap kahalikan?


"Kasi when I get to that scene ginagawa ko yung character ko," safe pa rin niyang sagot.


Hindi ba niya ninanamnam ang mga halik sa kanya?


"Hindi ko siya pinepersonal."


Sa pamimilit pa rin namin itinanong na lang ng PEP kung kanino ang mas torrid na kissing scene.



"Kami ni JC," bigay na ring sagot ni Yasmien.


So, masasabi na ba niyang palaban na rin siya sa halikan?


"Hindi naman po. Siyempre TV pa rin po tayo at marami pa rin pong bata na nanonood. Hindi naman po natin hahayaan na magmukha siyang hindi kaaya-aya sa paningin ng mga viewers."



Mapapanood na ang Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita weeknights simula sa March 24 sa GMA Telebabad, sa direksyon ni Joel Lamangan.

Proud na proud nga si Direk Joel Lamangan sa bagong dinidirek niyang primetime teleserye na Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita dahil ginastusan daw ito nang husto ng GMA-7. Lahat daw ng hiniling niya para maging bongga ang pilot week ay ibinigay naman sa kanya.

Magsisimula na ito sa March 24 bilang kapalit ng Marimar. Opening scene pa lang daw ng Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita ay "madugo" na raw at parang pelikula ang dating.

"Mas malaki kasi ang budget kapag primetime ang show," ngiti ni Direk Joel. "As compared sa mga afternoon drama, okey rin naman ang budget nila pero hindi ka makaka-request ng helicopters at saksakan ng dami na extras.

"But GMA-7 is very generous sa mga request ko sa production kaya naman pinaganda namin nang husto ang pilot week ng show. Maloloka sila sa mga eksena kasi first day pa lang, big scene na kaagad."

IMPRESSIVE ACTORS. Huling nakatrabaho ni Direk Joel ang bida ng soap drama na ito na si Yasmien Kurdi sa afternoon drama na Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig. Dito nga raw sa bagong show ay mas lulutang pa nang husto ang husay ni Yasmien bilang aktres.

"I've worked with her in three movies [Ai****e Masu, So Happy Together, Bahay Kubo] at noon ko pa nakikitaan 'yan ng potential sa drama. Mahusay ang bata and she's giving it her all parati. Dito sa bagong show, she really impressed me a lot. Abangan n'yo si Yasmien sa mga dramatic highlights niya."

Yasmien comes to terms with herself

"I used to break plates so I wouldn't have so much to wash."

Yasmien Kurdi recalls how she managed to get back at her Teyta (her
Lebanese grandmother) for making her wash dishes and scrub greasy
pots and pans back in Kuwait.

She admits that discrimination was something she learned to
understand at a very young age. Born in Kuwait to a Lebanese father
and a Filipino mother, Yasmien grew up in her Teyta's home and lived
with the old woman's spite for her being half-Filipino. "It was
obvious because she wasn't as harsh with my cousins," she shares.

Now that Yasmien topbills the newest Sharon Cuneta remake Babangon
Ako't Dudurugin Kita, which will replace Marimar on GMA Network's
weeknight primetime block starting on March 24, she is asked if she
deems her new show's title an apt line for her Teyta.

"That's such a cruel line," she laughs. "My grandmother is very old
now. Among Arabs, people are too old when they reach 60 or 70 — it's
the prime age to die. But, honestly, I hold no grudge against Teyta
now. I even plan to visit her when I find the time."

At 19, Yasmien believes that she has become mature enough to
understand what she went through as a child and what happened to her
family. "I used to hate my father because I couldn't understand why
he and Mom always fought, why my mother always cried," she
discloses. "When Mom and I left him to live in the Philippines, I
still harbored that hate for him. It was too hard for me to
understand their differences. But now I've realized why my parents
can never be together. It's a matter of religion. I shouldn't impose
anything that will complicate things for us. We're all doing well
now. I know that there's no way for my parents to get back together
again, but I'm happy that they are friends now. Dad and I are also
the closest we've ever been. We are always communicating now, and he
says he'll come visit me here soon."

She adds that her Dad is still not too keen on her being an actress
and that he keeps on telling her "no kissing." Asked how her Dad
will react when he finds out that she's not only kissing different
guys on TV but also doing bed scenes and rape scenes, she briefly
replies, "He doesn't know yet and he really hasn't watched any of my
projects."

In Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, Yasmien plays the role of Salve,
originally portrayed by Sharon Cuneta in the movie, who marries
Alfred (Marvin Agustin), gets raped under the orders of Via
(Angelika dela Cruz), and is trained to be a hired killer by Derek
(JC De Vera) and Mona Lisa (Dina Bonnevie).

Although her new show is a primetime program and will be replacing
the hugely successful Marimar, Yasmien does not want to think of the
pressure and high expectations from viewers and her home network. "I
just want to do my job and enjoy it while praying for God to guide
me along the way," she says.

Asked if she is ready to shed her teeny bopper roles and concentrate
on more serious projects like Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita, Yasmien
says that she will still be doing light roles such as that of Tasya
Fantasya, a remake of the Kris Aquino movie which will soon air as a
weekly series on GMA.

"Babangon may be a serious show but we have fun doing it," she
adds. "In fact, Kuya Marvin and I had a laughing fit when we shot
our love scene as husband and wife. I found it weird to be doing a
bed scene with him. I mean, I used to watch him and Ate Jolens
(Jolina Magdangal) as a loveteam and now I'm the one getting
intimate with him. It's just so funny that we couldn't get the scene
right, that we always ended up laughing whenever we tried to be
serious. Direk Joel (Lamangan) had to get down for us to finally do
it right."

According to Yasmien, she can honestly say that she has never been
this happy in her life. "I really couldn't ask for more. My career
is doing well. Both my Mom and my Dad are healthy and though they're
apart, they're friends and I'm close to both of them. I feel loved
by my fans. In fact, I just met my US fans when I did a show there
with Ate Jolens and Kuya Dennis (Trillo) recently. I was received
warmly by my fans there; they toured me and I didn't even spend a
single cent. They shouldered all the expenses and even gave me so
much pasalubong. I had excess baggage on my trip back to the
Philippines, but most of the stuff were the fans' pasalubong for JC
(De Vera). They are big fans of our love team."

Yasmien also plans to pursue a college education and will be taking
her exams this April. "I want to take up International Studies
because I want to work in the UN or the embassies in the future. I
want to be able to help the Filipinos working and living abroad. I
also want to be the one working for my parents so that they'll just
enjoy their lives and not have to worry about earning money — I will
be the one earning for them."

In the same breath, she adds that she wants both her parents to find
their respective partners in life. "I might upload their profiles in
Match.Com one day to start the search," she quips.


YASMIEN MUST BE CASTIGATED
HERE'S another e-mail from Gina Pastoril-Bucud about Yasmien Kurdi: "I
read that writer Dino Erece saw Yasmien Kurdi chatting in a public
Internet shop with a guy who is naked. Yasmien said the guy is just a
friend but Dino said it's her boyfriend, a flight attendant.

I don't know with Yasmien but considering that GMA-7 is building her
up to be a big star, she should be more careful with her actuations in
public. Don't you think she owes it to herself to be more discreet
with her private affairs? I mean, if you'd chat with a naked guy, why
do it in a computer shop available to the general public where she'd
be seen by other people using the computers there?

Doesn't she have a computer at home where she can chat with a naked
guy with her also naked? Di ba, common sense lang naman `yan. If I
were Wilma Galvante, kagagalitan namin si Yasmien for her lack of
delicadeza. O kaya, ibibili na lang namin siya ng her own computer
para hindi siya magkalat in public." (Another demolition job?—Ed.)

Director Joel Lamangan On Yasmien Kurdi

Here's a couple articles i just read about BADK and Yazzie and other preparations. I'm glad most of all that her working attitude comes out loved and praised by people she works with. :)
Hmmm, there are different reasons to watch it! It is BADK in a different touch of drama and action. So far, reading about how they remake this piece makes me really twice thrilled!
First, i love Joel Lamangan's idea. He is right that by bringing up yazzie on her deserved seat to primetime, GMA7 will find out that there are lots of high potentials and even better so that they really don't have to focus on one artist. (Remember what happened to Angel Locsin?) There are so many deserving stars and right now yes, the princess is most deserving so why enclose and limit what they can reach?

Next ummm so they have made changes and if you're like me who saw BADK movie, expect that in this soap Salve isn't really poor at all, in fact she is healthy rich but raised in an opposite life after the death of her her parents plus a manipulating,unfaithfull and cunning husband will come to picture . This and more will reshape Salve into an entirely different character, strong and yet too strong...too revengefully bittersweet and vicious and venomous!

I just can't wait!

Pilot episode pa lang ng Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita sa March 24,
madugo na't two choppers at 500 extras ang ni-request ni Direk Joel
Lamangan.

Big scene agad ang mapapanood with matching barilan at ilan sa
important characters ang agad mamamatay.

Mabilis ang taping ni Direk Joel at ang tinatapos niya ay pang-fifth
week na.
Wala siyang problema sa kanyang cast na pawang magagaling at walang
nali-late.
Naniniwala si Direk na ripe na for primetime sina Yasmien Kurdi at
JC de Vera.
"Ang taas ng rating ng afternoon soap nila and it's high time na
itaas sila para maka-discover ang GMA-7 ng ibang artista.

"Mahusay si Yasmien, maganda ang attitude at bata pa, kinakitaan ko
na ng potential. Shocked ako't she can discuss the Lebanese war."

"Parang ganu'n, pero 'di ganun ka-political" ang sagot ni Direk Joel
sa tanong kung ang Babangon�, ang next Kung Mawawala Ka, na dinirehe
rin niya.

"Ito ang next realistic show ng Channel 7," wika pa ng direktor.

DIREK JOEL: HINOG NA SI YASMIEN

JOEL Lamangan directed one of the best serials ever on GMA-7, "Kung
Mawawala Ka". Now, after doing afternoon hits like "Sinasamba Kita"
and "Pasan Ko ang Daigdig", he's back on primetime in GMA
Telebabad's new soap after "Marimar", the adaptation of the Sharon
Cuneta movie, "Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita".

"Pero malayung-malayo na ito from the original," he says. "We just
borrowed the milieu. The story has been expanded and there are now
more characters, a bigger cast and more intriguing twists and turns
in the development of the plot."

Isn't he somehow pressured that "Babangon" replaces "Marimar" that
often rates 40% plus? "May pressure, but we're confident that we'd
be able to achieve high ratings also. Siguro not at the start agad,
but eventually, because of the very engrossing story, we can do it."

Can Yasmien Kurdi now rate high in primetime? "I believe so. Her
afternoon soaps were rating so high kaya hinog na sila ni JC De Vera
for evening viewing."

What's the difference in making a soap for primetime than one in the
afternoon? "More demanding ang primetime show as the network has
bigger expectations for higher ratings. You have to have bigger
production values. Siyempre, mas malaki rin ang return of investment
sa TV commercials on primetime kaya, usually, lahat ng hingin ko
para mas mapaganda ang show, they give it. Like in `Babangon', for
the opening scene, we use a helicopter and 500 extras. Big scene
talaga as it shows a massacre caused by a jueteng lord, played by
Emilio Garcia na asawa ni Dina Bonnevie rito. Emilio dies, so Dina
become the jueteng queen. Siya ang ina ni Yasmien Kurdi, but her
enemies will kidnap Yasmien as a baby at palalakihin siyang
mangmang. Naampon siya ni Deborah Sun na kabit ni Mike Magat.
Yasmien discovers na nilalason ni Mike si Deborah kaya the guy is
jailed and Deborah leaves all her riches of P10 million kay Yasmien,
na niloko naman ni Marvin Agustin. Marami pang surprises ang
kuwento, but Yasmien will develop as a character and her arc will
make a 360 degree turn from a stupid girl deceived by all to being
the wily head of a syndicate. It's a very demanding role and Yasmien
delivers. First time I directed her in `Aishite Imasu' and `So Happy
Together' four years ago, I already saw her potential."

What can he say about Yasmien's alleged weight problem? "Actually,
ang payat niya ngayon. Kaya lang, even if she's thin, she's still
big, parang si Sharon Cuneta kasi they both have big bones. Lakihin
talaga silang mga babae and they can't do anything about it except
to maintain their weight to a minimum."

Countdown to BADK

It is unstoppable! Blast of BADK will come in just a week more! :) The rightful drama princess moves to primetime seat at last! We've missed the inner beauty of charming and now she will be back in a drama-action soap which only a princess i'm sure could ever give a beautiful life to Salve on our screens once more. After all of the fantaseryes, yes i love the return of real-life touching stories! From the poisonous serpent that is Kamandag,to the awesoome combination and union of beyond natural powers etched on tattoes of Joaquin Bordado, and oh as i've heard the soon love story between the mermaid and real man on Dyesebel remake, hmmm i just believe there's too much of superpowers in a night that even some if not most of the powers like Pirena's fire has been too overused! Am i the only one who'd think they make Encatadia strainfully and disgustingly alive?

BADK will season a different playful flavor on the screen and i'm glad it's very soon!

Anyway, here's a little observation. Ummm unlike any other soaps coming to primetime, BADK is less promoted, less publicized and less sensationalized. Do you think GMA7 should have done more or are they that confident or neglectful and a little not fair with other stars?

Whatever happens, i'm sure KDF and non-KDF and other yazzie fanatics will prove that Yazzie deserves her seat!
