Rising from the ashes
Article posted March 14, 2008 Last March 12, GMA launched its newest telebabad show that will surely make us rise up and ask for more.
Our summer will truly be hotter than ever as a brand new show hits the primetime slot. Gildas Olividado’s: Babangon Ako’t Dudurugin Kita held its press launch at a garden side location fit for a red carpet event.
The cast of the show arrived wearing glamorous clothing, made for the A-list stars that there are. Not to mention, according host Jojo Alejar, the event was sponsored by the character that Ms. Dina Bonnevie plays on the show. So the feel was like the press people were part of the new drama.
The evening started off with a brief greeting from director extraordinaire, Direk Joel Lamangan. “Pinagbuhusan po namin ng oras at pag-iisip na inhahandog namin sa mga manonood, ito’y isa na namang obra na galing sa GMA” stated the critically acclaimed director.
The creator of the comic franchise, Ms. Gilda Olividado, was really overwhelmed with the story’s new format, “I’m very happy with the team kasi, lahat sila magaling at maganda talaga siya.”
Though both the comic and movie were a massive success, Ms. Gilda admits that she still feels a little nervous about this project, “Nung una hindi ako makapaniwala na primetime, nakakatakot lang kasi yung papalitan, MariMar, mataas yung ratings. We’re hoping na maganda rin yung reception sa kanya.”
Head writer Don Michael Perez is very optimistic that the show will certainly become another TV hit, “Yung pang-aapi ilang beses na natin nakita yun, kailangan may-iba. Habang tumatakobo yung kwento ni Salve, tumatakbo din yung kwento ng ibang characters.”
Compared to the movie, the show is far more complex and deeper. The cast is led by Yasmien Kurdi who plays the vulnerable Salve. After her blissful marriage to Alfred (played by Marvin Agustin), will endure the most intricate kind of suffering one could ever imagine.
Salve’s life will be at its worst when Via, played by Angelika Dela Cruz, steps in the life of Alfred. Redemption will be on Salve’s side when she meets Derek (JC De Vera), a young man who will teach her the meaning of revenge.
Marvin Agustin admits that he feels a little pressured playing the role of the vicious Alfred. “It’s not just the Christopher De Leon idea that pressures. It’s the fact na pinabigat nila yung character, na pinahirap nila” shares Marvin.
Yasmien is also a little nervous about playing the role of Salve. “Sobrang first time yung ganitong role sa akin. I have to be mature and lady like talaga” says Yas.
JC on the other hand, thanks his Dramarama roots for preparing him for this big role, “Parang naging sort of training na rin naming [yun]. Sinanay na kami na hindi masyadong gina-guide ng mga directors, at ng mga staff. Binigyan kami ng tiwala na gawin yung craft namin.”
For the returning Kapuso star Angelika Dela Cruz, playing the devious Via is one of the best roles she’s had, “Maganda yung character ni Via, iniba nila. As in nilalagyan nila ng mas angst yung character para mag three hundred sixty na iba, ganoon.”
But all agreed that it was Direk Joel Lamangan’s unique vision that made the show a masterpiece. ”I don’t think there’s no other director to give this justice, kasi gamay na gamay niya yung material na to’” says head writer Don Michael Perez.
